Letter to Parents & Islesboro Community

March 4, 2022

Dear Families of Islesboro Central School,

Islesboro Central School will be following the Maine CDC and DOE recent recommendation of optional masking in schools beginning Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

While many will welcome this change, some will want to continue to wear masks. ICS will support each individual’s masking choice without judgment.  COVID-19 is still not over, and we will continue to monitor the situation and guidance and make adjustments as necessary.  If there were to be an increase in school based cases, we would likely return to required masking.

Optional masking will be in effect inside the school, on school grounds, and on school buses.

Exceptions to optional masking:

  •  Anyone returning to school after the minimum five day quarantine due to a positive COVID-19 diagnosis will need to wear a mask for five additional days.  Those who quarantine for the full ten days will not need to wear a mask upon returning.  This is a Maine CDC requirement.
  • If our students visit another establishment for a field trip or athletic event, our staff and  students will follow the rules of that facility.

The sentinel testing program offered at school through the Islesboro Health Center, will move from every week to every two weeks.  Other measures, such as distanced seating at lunch and the daily symptom checker, will remain in place for the time being.

Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dominic DePatsy, Superintendent Kate Legere, Principal
