High School Information:
The High School philosophy at Islesboro Central School begins with the idea that learning happens both in and out of the classroom. Faculty believe in meeting students where they are and helping them grow through diverse classroom experiences and teaching methods. Each student’s growth is supported by the collaborative creation of a student-driven Pathway involving an individualized combination of coursework, experiential learning, passion projects, early college access, and career exploration. During their four years in high school, ICS students complete coursework in the disciplines of science, math, French, history and social studies, English, horticulture and sustainability, art, music, and physical education. Islesboro Central School graduates are prepared to meet the challenges of college and career in areas of traditional academic rigor as well as the broader skills of critical and creative thinking; collaboration and teamwork; understanding and respect for sustainable environmental systems; empathy for fellow citizens; community service; civic engagement and civil discourse.
